The research of professor David Nutt

This artwork was inspired by the work of neuropharmacology Professor David Nutt examining the effect of psychedelic drugs on the human brain. Multiple studies revealed that substances such as LSD and psilocybin (from magic mushrooms) may have positive therapeutic effects in individuals with mental health problems or addictions. They have anti-anxiety, anti-depressive and anti-addictive effects, which they trigger by stimulating of the brains pleasure circuits.

A delicate organ

The brain is arguably the most important organ in the human body. It controls various functions reaching from unconscious breathing to processing thoughts and emotions. This highly complex organ can be structurally and functionally manipulated by psychedelic substances. These can cause altered cognitive processes, perception and mood. Advancements in biomedical research and medicine suggest that this may be harnessed for treatment of mental health problems.
