This work was created for eLife, a non-profit organisation inspired by research funders and led by scientists. This artwork was designed to complement a series of articles discussing research culture and the growing concern that the current research system is not supporting science or scientists.
Scientists under pressure
The artwork depicts a variety of scientists, struggling to keep the ‘wheel turning’. They are surrounded by scientific papers, highlighting the overwhelming pressure experienced by scientists to publish their work, obtain funding and try to secure their jobs in often difficult working environments.
