The Genetics Society of America commissioned a special issue cover to celebrate 200 years since the birth of Gregor Mendel. We wanted to nod towards his study of pea plants, but include some more contemporary ideas from genetics too in order to show how the ideas are still relevant today. We settled on visuals that also included DNA and RNA.
Gregor Mendel developed many of his theories of inheritance by studying pea plants. Foundational ideas about dominant and recessive genes still influence our understanding of genetics today.
