Diabetes is a serious condition where a person cannot control their blood sugar. This can lead to dangerously high (hyperglycaemic) and low levels (hypoglycaemic) of glucose in the blood.
Insulin is a peptide hormone produced by the pancreas. It controls processes related to the storage and metabolism of glucose. Type 1 diabetes is a condition where the pancreatic cells that produce insulin are destroyed by an autoimmune attack. To correct this disease, the hormone insulin must be injected directly into the body. The other form of diabetes is Type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is induced by over consumption of high sugar foods and rinks. This leads to the pancreatic cells not producing enough insulin and/or the body cells not responding to insulin.
