Arthritis is the name given to a disease in which the swelling of joints causes pain and discomfort.
There are hundreds of diseases which are classed as arthritis. The two most common forms include Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis.
Osteoarthritis occurs where where the cartilage lining that surrounds a joint is broken down leading to pain when moving. This commonly affects the hands, knees, spine and hips.
Rheumatoid Arthritis is a disease in which the immune system damages the synovium (the outer covering of the joint). This most commonly affects the joints of the hands and feet.
